Our Director of Merchandising will have the unique opportunity of scaling and expanding our buying organization. As a leader on the Merchandising team, you will own building our product offering and bringing to life the best product in the industry. You will share our passion and commitment to offering our customers beautiful, high quality, and great value clothing.This individual should be well versed in the retail world, comfortable both opening and managing wholesale relationships as well as spearheading private label development. We are looking for 10-15+ years of industry experience, ideally in apparel, leading and growing a merchandising team. The ideal candidate will be a passionate consumer advocate, a data-driven and cross-functional collaborator with proven experience delivering exceptional results in a fast-paced retail organization rooted in a deep understanding of the customer and competitive trends.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple portfolios and the respective P&L’s, setting the strategic direction for the merchandising organization
    • Responsible for setting and attaining budgeted sales, budgeted margin, and other KPIs  
    • Foster innovation while managing risk across the business
  • Building strong and lasting vendor relationships and optimizing our vendor portfolio
    • Owning and managing dynamic and innovative partnerships with our vendors
    • Working with Sourcing & Product Development teams to optimize our vendor portfolio Leading significant business development efforts, including identifying new potential partners and opening new relationships
  • Identify, operationalize, and own best-in-class product reporting and processes
  • Leverage a deep understanding of our customer to select and scale merchandising decisions, collaborating with Data Science and Marketing teams to understand merchandise impact on purchasing behavior and customer lifetime value
  • Collaborate with our Planning team to create a best-in-class assortment strategy
  • Lead and own consumer research across the merchandising team to measure the effectiveness of our assortment
  • Build an effective and engaged team
    • Manage a team of Merchants while partnering with Planning, Production and Design teams
    • Develop and motivating members with effective coaching and significant empowerment
    • Organize and building the team for sustainable growth

You:

  • Have 10-15+ years of experience in a merchandising role, with progressively increasing responsibility with a mix of experience across merchandising in both store and/or online verticals
  • Are a consumer-centric thinker with a passion for understanding how customers think and shop
  • Have an eye for style and passion for fashion
  • Are a self-starter with the ability to take initiative, ownership and accountability for the business
  • Are exceptionally analytical and data-driven in your approach
  • Are an inspirational leader and strong team builder
  • Have a track record of successful negotiation and vendor management
  • Are willing to travel on a monthly basis
