Unified Communications Infrastructure Engineer

Hiring Location: Hermitage, TN

Primary Duties:

  • Responsible for all aspects of system/application engineering including problem-solving, configuration and implementation efforts for large and / or complex projects with an emphasis on operational excellence and continuous improvement of systems engineering related processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of real-time and asynchronous communications and collaborations systems. Hosted applications include but are not limited to, Microsoft Exchange servers, ADFS, Windows 2008 R2/2012 R2 domain controllers, DNS/WINS servers, Microsoft Outlook, Exchange Active Sync and other applications as deployed by the Unified Communications team.
  • Responsible for providing next level of support for DNOC Applications Support team.
  • Key responsibility for monitoring and responding to issues or service requests reported in Service Desk, and creating and resolving problem tickets for chronic service issues.
  • Participate in team on-call pager response 7x24x365 in support of escalations by DNOC Applications Support team.
  • Participate in after business hours operational maintenance activities and deployments
  • Monitor performance levels and capacity of supported applications, and assist the Unified Communication team in proper capacity planning and management.
  • Engage with Enterprise Operations Tools Team to ensure proper monitoring of all supported Unified Communications applications and services.
  • Engage in activities as required, such as developing build documents, testing configurations and patches, and planning deployments.
  • Plan, deploy solutions, document procedures and coordinate systems software and hardware activities with local and remote team members and their clients.
  • This individual should be able to manage the application through its entire lifecycle.
  • Develop standards, processes, and procedures within the scope of Unified Communications.
  • Collaborate with other service teams –Networking, Server, Desktop, Applications - to assist in solving service problems when related to UC services

Primary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technology-focused major, certification or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of strong experience in a Microsoft Exchange 2010/2013 enterprise environment
  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and or Windows Server 2012 R2
  • 5+ years of strong experience with Active Directory, ADFS, LDAP, Kerberos, Group Policy, DFS and DNS.
  • Experience with automation and scripting using PowerShell
  • Experience in the IT industry with substantial engineering and operations experience supporting Windows technologies with some networking or telecom experience
  • 2+ years of relevant business and professional experience required to ensure tasks are completed without supervision.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex problem solving techniques dealing with systems engineering and support.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of performance tuning and optimization including the identification of performance related issues.
  • Ability to effectively communicate written and verbal to all levels within the organizations as well as communicate directly with customers on new projects and / or issues with production systems.
  • Self-starter with ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required and to collaborate with colleagues in different time zones
