Main Purpose of Job Supports Engagement Manager in delivery of services to / at client premises on delegated engagement / project. Minimum Qualifications Degree Desired Qualifications Postgraduate qualification (relevant to Service Area / Business Management, etc.) Minimum Experience 4 years working experience Desired Experience 3 years in a client facing role Key Competencies required: Leadership Competencies 1. Strategic Impact • Support the Engagement Manager in delivery of engagement / project, in specific area of competency • Raise issues with manager as identified in area of focus that may affect the quality of delivery or timelines of the engagement • Identify opportunities for follow-on work and work with management to win the business • Assist in development of client presentations / discussion documentation • Actively build business relationships that generate leads • Gather information to understand broader offerings of Deloitte and seek opportunities for cross-selling • Raise solutions to address issues in area of expertise that may enhance / renew service offerings to client 2. Client Impact: External / Internal • Contributes to management decisions through pertinent analysis of client, company and industry • Communicate regularly with both Engagement Manager and client to meet deliverable expectations in specific area of expertise • Develop productive working relationships with client staff • Responds with urgency and accountability to client and team requests 3. Operational Effectiveness • Proactively identify client needs and problem technical issues that arise and propose resolutions to address these • Manage risk in area of engagement in alignment with Deloitte policies • Consistently review and analyse accuracy and quality of own deliverables • Maintain clear communication channels with engagement team members on work status 4. Development/Growth of Team • Share expertise and knowledge with team members and assist where possible to ensure quality and timeous delivery of work • Mentor junior members of the team • Maintain own development and knowledge in specialised area 5. Budgets / Profitability • Maintain quality and timeous delivery as per SLA Technical Competencies • Technical expert in specific area and/or industry • Demonstrated project management skill • Consulting skills • Experience in drafting and presenting to clients • Good report writing skills • Sound financial knowledge and understanding • Business acumen Specialized Competencies • Preparation and submission of notice of objection and notice of appeal forms, including supporting letters • Assistance and support during tax related negotiations • Drafting of various tax related agreements such as extension of prescription agreements, settlement agreements and voluntary disclosure agreements (or providing commentary and tracked changes to such agreements prepared by SARS) • Practical day-to-day handling of issues with SARS, including travelling to SARS to independently resolve certain matters, for example: delays or difficulties in obtaining tax clearance certificates or tax registrations; SARS unexpectedly taking money from clients’ bank accounts; delays in SARS refunding overpaid taxes; shipments being stopped at the border for tax related reasons; reconciliation of tax accounts and understanding the various entries and journals in the tax accounts • Preparing briefs for counsel (to be sent through an independent attorney to counsel, in most instances) • Project management of tax disputes, to ensure that all deadlines are met • Maintaining client contact and building client relationships, including taking instructions from clients and updating clients on the progress on the matter • Maintaining SARS contact and building SARS relationships • Issue of letters of opinion regarding the prospects of success in a matter • Issue of letters of opinion concerning the risks of a proposed transaction, including technical tax risks, practical risks, and evidentiary or other dispute related risks • Support to counsel during the litigation process, including handling the discovery process, taking witness statements, and preparing documents for court • Compliance and Reporting Conducts research on tax regimes in local and other tax jurisdictions in which clients operate • Tax Advisory and Consulting Researches and prepares draft client reports under the guidance of senior staff and project management • Tax Accounting Prepares tax provisions using technical skills to accurately complete calculations and follow Firm policies and procedures • Tax Controversy Management • Researches tax authority audit/appeals process and prepares draft reports to be presented before the tax authorities in tax audits/administrative appeals Behavioural • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills • Mentorship and coaching ability with desire to develop self and others • Strong client delivery focus • Adaptable, managing change and ambiguity with ease • Focus on quality and risk • Problem solving ability Leadership / Behavioural Capabilities • Living our Purpose – Identifies and embraces our purpose and values and puts these into practice in their professional life • Influence – Builds relationships and communicates effectively in order to positively influence peers and other stakeholders • Performance drive – Seeks opportunities to challenge self; teams with others across businesses and borders to deliver and takes accountability for own and team results • Strategic direction – Understands objectives for clients and Deloitte, aligns own work to objectives and sets personal priorities • Talent development – Develops self by actively seeking opportunities for growth, shares knowledge and experiences with others, and acts as a strong brand ambassador
