Information Technology Services Intern – CyberSecurity Security Operations Center (SOC)-Hermitage (Summer 2017)

An internship with Information Technology Services (ITS) will kick start your career journey. Throughout our internship program, you'll gain real business experience working on IT projects, build upon your skillset (both technical and soft skills), and expand your network. Immersing yourself in our culture, you will learn what it takes to succeed within a professional services firm and along the way, you will discover exciting career opportunities in IT.

Work you'll do

You will be monitoring and analyzing security logs from multiple sources, such as DLP, IDS/IPS, Antivirus, firewalls, system logs and others, then escalating any relevant security issues to the appropriate areas. Additionally, you will be responsible for providing the appropriate teams with guidance on security issues that need to be remediated. You must have a strong awareness of current and developing security threats and technologies to support research and recommendations. You will work closely with management, other team members, development teams, business analysts, and practitioners to ensure data protection for systems used by all areas of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor security events from multiple sources, analyze the results and escalate, when necessary, to the appropriate group for remediation. The events will originate from, but are not limited to DLP, IDS, IPS, antivirus, firewalls and system security logs.
  • Develop custom content for the SIEM platform. This would include creating, publishing, and communicating the availability of dashboards that will be monitored by the Security Operations Center.
  • Identify potential security exposures that may currently exist or may pose a potential future threat to the US Firm's networks or systems. Ensure IRC leadership is notified when these exposures are identified and develop potential remediation plans.
  • Work jointly with Infrastructure and IRC teams to periodically review existing security device architecture and recommend potential updates or enhancements for group review
  • Monitor security blogs, articles, reports, as well as other security intelligence sources to keep up-to-date on the latest security threats and trends. Report significant threats to Cyber Defense leadership.
