Electical Engineer Systems Architect

Job Title

Our Electrical Engineering team puts the spark into the full hardware development lifecycle, from concept to production. It takes experts in system architecture definition, design, analysis, prototyping, sourcing & the debugging and validation of layouts or routes to deliver state-of-the-art products for a changing world. We work closely with designers, cross-functional teams within Dell Technologies and suppliers to make sure electronic designs meet a range of requirements, including schedule, feature set, functionality and quality, as well as industry standards.

Accountabilities
  • Designs and develops electrical architecture for mobile equipment and their hardware systems
  • Determines and communicates design approaches and parameters
  • Drives system architecture definition for assigned program, and ensures consistency/compatibility with other products (both new/legacy) as necessary
  • Analyzes test plan requirements to perform verification
  • Oversees experimental tests and evaluates results
  • Selects components based on analysis of specifications, cost, continuity of supply, and reliability
  • Reviews original design manufacturer and sub-tier vendor capability to support product development and production
  • Ensures that designs integrate with rest of product functions including mechanical and software
  • Creates and maintains required documentation including specifications
  • Ensures the manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability of designs
  • Supports specialized electrical sub-systems such as power, batteries, comms, graphics, component, memory, etc.


Key Responsibilities
  • Feature and Cost trade-off analysis
  • Partitions design tasks and leads electrical team in implementation and validation on program
  • Drives appropriate simulation and ECAD
  • Works with engineering manager to assist in the creation of the development plan for program, including schedule, risks and resources
  • Cultivate a strategic partnership with Dell's SW & ME architecture teams
  • Experience in product early concept through production launch
  • Intel / AMD system architecture and debug
  • A solid understanding of security elements (ECs & TPM's) within a computer system
  • Analog and digital design
  • High speed bus interface design
  • CPLD / FPGA design
  • High speed PCB layout design
  • Enabling others through sharing knowledge / mentoring

    Essential Requirements
  • 5-7 years experience in product design
  • Must possess strong communication skills (written and oral) with other company team members and the customer as required
  • Ability to execute Dell's strategic direction
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering

    Desirable Requirements
  • 7-10+ years experience in product design
  • Graduate degree is a plus
  • Prior mobile EE architecture experience
  • Work experience and knowledge of X86 architecture
  • Technical experience in OS integration
  • Experience running a core team
  • Working with Asian ODM partners
  • Strong aptitude for interpretation of design, simulations, test, and qualification requirements
  • Working knowledge of mass-production manufacturing processes and material costs
  • Must be a self-driven individual that has the ability to work independently, regular reporting of progress and status with only general guidance needed
