Application Engineer
DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Application Engineer to join our team specializing in Application Engineering in Mississauga, ON.
Job Summary:
This dual customer/product focused position serves as the senior technical liaison between OEMs and represents our customers during new product development programs. Applying Cummins' products to customer vehicles requires the development of technical specifications, implementing new design configurations, and delivering high performance, low-cost equipment and system solutions integrated with customers' products in a variety of applications. Integrating high quality and optimized customer solutions requires the interaction with sales and marketing teams.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Drive cross-functional collaboration by obtaining input from Subject Matter Experts and VPI teams to deliver accurate product data and installation requirements to Application Engineers and OEM partners
- Influence product performance and quality through informed decisions on product selection, system design, and integration strategies tailored to OEM applications
- Enhance engineering processes by applying and refining tools like Installation Quality Assurance, COLS, Advisor, and GCE to support high-quality, data-driven decision-making
- Act as a trusted technical liaison to OEM customers, managing specifications, resolving complex installation challenges, and communicating product updates with clarity and confidence
- Translate customer needs into engineering solutions , ensuring the voice of the customer is embedded in product requirements and program decisions
- Champion installation excellence by validating prototype machine performance and ensuring compliance with Cummins installation standards and environmental requirements
- Lead innovation and continuous improvement , proposing customer-focused initiatives and applying ALD and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize product and system performance
- Mentor and guide junior engineers , sharing expertise, coordinating technician efforts, and contributing to the development of engineering capabilities within the team

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Machine Integration & Optimization : Apply Cummins tools and best practices to combine subsystems into high-performing machines and resolve technical issues quickly.
- Product Application Support : Deliver accurate technical content and define installation requirements to support product launches and customer integration.
- Modeling & Analysis : Use simulation tools to predict product performance and guide design decisions.
- Installation Quality & Problem Solving : Ensure installations meet standards and solve issues using data-driven methods that prevent recurrence.
- Customer-Focused Communication : Serve as the technical liaison for OEMs, manage product changes, and build strong relationships through clear, tailored communication.
- Decision-Making & Results Orientation : Make timely decisions, manage complexity, and consistently deliver outcomes.
- Collaboration & Inclusion : Build networks, value diverse perspectives, and mentor others to strengthen team capabilities.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
This is a hybrid role that combines remote work, in-office collaboration, and on-site customer engagement. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment that includes:
- Customer site visits across Ontario (20-40% of time) for meetings, troubleshooting, and installation reviews
- Hands-on technical work , including instrumentation setup, machine testing, and diagnostic troubleshooting
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engines , including their components, subsystems, and operational principles
- Self-directed work style with a strong sense of initiative and problem-solving ability
- Flexible scheduling , with occasional adjustments to accommodate travel or project needs
- Occasional travel to the United States (1-2 weeks per year) for training sessions and industry conferences
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation , or eligibility to obtain
