Senior Database Administrator

As a Sr. Database Administratorat CSC you will play a role in the analysis, design, implementation, and support of Oracle Server and NoSQL databases for our Digital Brand Services business unit. You will managedatabases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems. As a key member of our technical team, you will be involved in development, design,performance tuning, and maintenance. We are looking for a self-starter who is passionate about making a difference, working within a team, and delivering high quality software.

Some of the things you'll be doing:

  • Consult on the design of SQL queries and write SQL queries against tables

  • Participate in performance tuning, table and schema design, and partitioning

  • Identify poorly performing SQL queries and PL/SQL code

  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end

  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes; provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users

  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to peers and team members

  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security

    What technical skills, expereince, and qualificaitons do I need?

  • Strong familiarity with Oracle databases

  • Experience with other relational database systems such as PostgreSQL and MySQL

  • Experience with databases hosted in the cloud, specifically AWS

  • Strong experience in performance tuning especially tuning complex queries, procedure and indexing strategies

  • Demonstrable hands on experience manipulating applications to perform better

  • Database Administration skills including experience with backups, restores, and recovery models; knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Oracle Server

  • Familiarity with and understanding of WebLogic and programming languages including Python and Java

  • Experience working with Linux servers

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong problem solving skills and ability to things algorithmically

  • Ability to organize and plan work independently, as well as the ability to work in a rapidly changing environment

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing code and reverse engineering with or without the support of developers

  • Experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB, Cassandra, Elasticsearch or similar

  • Knowledge of NoSQL High Availability strategies: replica sets, sharding, partitioning keys in the context of NoSQL databases
