Job Summary

Supervise and oversees the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) assigned staff; responsible for ensuring internal and external compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures, staff work volume and work quality, assigned special projects, working with internal enterprise business units, SIU industry and law enforcement organizations.

Qualified candidate will work from our Corporate Office in Walnut Creek, CA or one of our 4 Regional Claims Centers: Las Vegas, NV., Oklahoma City, OK., Colorado Springs, CO., or Mt. Laurel, NJ.

Essential Functions / Principal Responsibilities

Responsible for decision making in the review of complex and high exposure cases while ensuring high quality of claims investigation and resolution, while properly managing expenses. Authority level up to $75,000 loss authority and $25,000 expense.

Provides leadership, direction and mentoring of the SIU staff; performance management including P&C Claims adjuster work, HR processes and procedures.

Has accountability for business results and ensures that department goals and objectives are met.

Recommends improvements and solutions to operational processes of respective area of accountability.

Responsible for the development and execution of compliance training to the Claims organization.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge and understanding of multi-state and federal insurance regulations and claims handling procedures
Strong knowledge of claims adjusting and investigations in physical damage and casualty, with ability to learn additional multiple lines of business such as; homeowners, litigation, PIP, etc.
Ability to work independently and oversee virtual staff. Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
Excellent presentation, communication and training skills. Ability to effectively communicate and deal with difficult customer interactions.
Must be able to travel (approx 10-20% of time)

Strong analytical skills with a strategic mindset
Strong decision making skills
Working knowledge of basic computer skills to include Microsoft office (Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)

Education, Work Experience, Licenses & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience
7+ years of complex claims experience
Maintain Adjuster's license (state-specific)
Valid automobile operator's license

2+ years litigation experience
2+ years of claims supervisory experience
CPCU/AIC/CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) designation
