Job Information

Oversees the image and reputation of CSAA Insurance Group through external communication channels. The position exists to establish strategic objectives and work plans to position the organization externally to members, key stakeholders, government officials, and AAA members and prospective members through the various communications media including traditional and new media. The media relations consultant will also implement public relations strategies for the company, key executives, coordinate with AAA clubs and AAA National to coordinate external campaigns and strategies on behalf of CSAA Insurance Group.• Acts as principal spokesperson for CSAA Insurance Group with news organizations. Coordinates and reviews all news releases, message points and media communication prior to issue. Interprets company policies and positions for news media.

  • Develops media relations strategies for business lines, consumer advisories and issue based campaigns. Ensures timely implementation of those strategies.
  • Manages the daily activities, operations and personnel in the Media Relations department. Assigns projects to personnel, reviews completed work to ensure accuracy and thoroughness, and monitors performance goals and objectives. Evaluates, implements and tracks measurements for earned media campaigns and outreach.
  • Researches and resolves consumer complaints forwarded from the media
  • Develops principal external communications programs in conjunction with Executive staff and is responsible for developing public communications capabilities throughout the organization. Recommends appropriate response to media inquiries.
  • Collaborates with key partners to leverage CSAA Insurance Group's brand attributes. Leverages media, sponsorships, product placement, online, community partnerships and marketing campaign channels in public relations strategy. Develops and implements communication strategies on major announcements with internal communications.
  • Develops and implements consistent enterprise communications policy/guidelines for public relations opportunities, including external speaking engagements, vendor press materials, and external executive presentations.
  • Manages and updates crisis communications plans on an ongoing basis.
  • Engages clubs in event of catastrophe. Shares toolkits and offers support and messaging
  • Identifies opportunities to provide unique story ideas to clubs, leveraging data collected by and within CSAA Insurance Group
  • Coaches public speakers on representing company (assume reporters in audience, etc.)
  • Conducts media training for spokespeople on an ongoing basis
  • Reviews and handles vendor endorsement requests
  • Drafts, secures approvals, posts and creatively pitches corporate press releases to local media outlets and industry trades
  • Develops position papers/background and talking points for key issues
  • Misc. writing projects
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Work Experience, Licenses & Certifications


  • BA/BS in Journalism, Communication, English or related field


  • 10+ years of professional communication experience in medium to large-sized company or agency.
  • IABC Accreditation or similar professional certification
