Job Information

Responsible for training/development, coaching and evaluation of Homeowner claims staff to ensure consistent file handling across regional centers and optimal service delivery. Includes daily oversight of business unit operations. Supervises and evaluates tactical operations and workflow of claims staff handling low, moderate and complex homeowner claims.

Essenntial Functions / Principal Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction to staff within the Homeowner function, overseeing the investigation, processing and conclusion of all claims.
  • Has shared responsibility and accountability for budgetary planning and results for business unit, and oversees the use of internal and external resources to effectively manage costs.
  • Sets and monitors required goals and targets for staff in support of enterprise, divisional and departmental strategy.
  • Communicates administrative policies and operating procedures, and conveys policy and procedural changes.
  • Responsible for conducting performance appraisals and recommending salary and personnel actions, including promotions and terminations.
  • Recognizes employee achievement and counsels employees on performance issues.
  • Trains, coaches and mentors employees for individual career development.
  • Monitors workloads and reviews claims to ensure high quality processing and service levels.
  • Working with manager, conducts trend and competitive analysis focused on identifying process improvement opportunities.
  • Institutes process improvements regarding the handling of homeowner claims, and ensures consistent application of handling processes and procedures.
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with Department of Insurance (DOI) regulations and that DOI and customer complaints are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and approves claim files exceeding settlement authority of staff.
  • Participates in Committee Review Process (Medical Payment and authority)
  • Acts as subject matter expert for homeowner claims, applying expertise in working collaboratively with other departments on projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Thorough knowledge of multi-state and federal property insurance law and regulations and of homeowner lines of insurance, policies and products

Claims systems knowledge

Excellent negotiation and communication skills

Ability to lead, coach, mentor, evaluate, motivate and provide training, guidance and constructive feedback

Customer service focus and good interpersonal skills

Ability to effectively supervise center-based and/or virtual staff

Knowledge of human resource processes, procedures and regulations

Working knowledge of home repair process

Extensive knowledge of property insurance law and regulations

Thorough knowledge of homeowner claims handling and ability to train on low- to high-complexity homeowner claims

Proficient math and computer skills

Ability to prioritize work, organize time and balance multiple projects

Effective critical-thinking and decision-making skills

Ability to develop customer service skills in others

Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends

Education, Work Experience, Licenses & Certifications Required:

BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience

5+ years homeowner claims experience

Valid driver's license with insurable driving record preferred and may be required depending on assignment

Preferred:

2-3 years claims supervisory experience

CPCU/AIC designation
