Purple Team Engineer - Cloud & Web Application Security (Remote)
3+ months ago•Remote
WeAreCrowdStrike and our mission is to stop breaches. As a global leader in cybersecurity, our team changed the game. Since our inception, our market leading cloud-native platform has offered unparalleled protection against the most sophisticated cyberattacks. We're looking for people with limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to the customer to join us in shaping the future of cybersecurity. Consistently recognized as a top workplace, CrowdStrike is committed to cultivating an inclusive, remote-first culture that offers people the autonomy and flexibility to balance the needs of work and life while taking their career to the next level. Interested in working for a company that sets the standard and leads with integrity? Join us on a mission that matters - one team, one fight.
About the Role:
Do you like digging deep into microservices and containers? Get frustrated at orgs with security programs that are just running tools and handing over reports? Ever want to sit down with a developer and help them actually fix a vuln? Then we'd like to meet you.
Our team is growing, and we're looking for capable security people to dig deep into web applications (from trillion-event-per-day cloud-native microservices to classic web stacks) find design and implementation flaws, and help our product engineers fix problems and ship secure code. If you like to rip apart applications to see how they work and find the security flaws; if you want to actually play a part in fixing flaws rather than just reporting them and hoping for the best - we want to hear from you!
In this job, you'll:
Join project teams working on product improvements and new products as a security expert and advisor, influencing the design and capabilities of our products
Create and update threat models to help drive security decisions
Read and review source code for applications, looking for security flaws and vulnerabilities; you'll have tools to help you but you'll be digging deeper than tools can
Attack running applications, mostly before they go to production; again, you'll have tools to help you, but you'll do more than tools can
Work with developers to help them understand problems, risks, design weaknesses, etc. and figure out good solutions
Build small tools and automation to make your life/your team's life/developers' lives easier
Validate and replicate some kinds of bug bounty reports, and hunt for similar issues in affected applications
We're hiring this role at multiple levels, so we still want to hear from you even if you think you can't do all of that - or if you can do more!
Skills you'll need:
Experience programming in or assessing security of at least one common programming language
Experience with BurpSuite, Zed Attack Proxy (ZAP), or similar dynamic testing tools
Familiarity with security implications of cloud-native and containerized apps
A working understanding of how software products are created and shipped in Agile/DevOps like environments - enough to have a positive working relationship with product engineers (software product development experience is a huge plus, but not a requirement)
A solid understanding of common software weaknesses that impact cloud and web applications (not just the OWASP Top 10); you'll be hunting for these, you need to know them when you see them and be able to help product engineers understand and fix them
Comfort with collaborating across technical teams: asking technical questions, challenging assumptions, getting or providing context for decisions, etc.
These skills are not required and/or we're willing to teach them, but they are helpful.
Experience developing/maintaining automation for application security tasks
Experience developing and using threat models, especially using STRIDE
Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes (k8s)
Application penetration testing experience, especially if it includes cloud-native apps
What you'll get from us:
Generous paid time off
Flexible work schedule
Remote work is normal (but we do have offices in many locations, if you prefer)
Competitive compensation and benefits, including performance bonuses, 401(k) plans, high-quality health coverage, employee stock purchase program, stock grants, etc.
Management support to learn and grow, and advance your career
Autonomy to take risks and experiment
Benefits of Working at CrowdStrike:
Market leader in compensation and equity awards
Competitive vacation and flexible working arrangements
Comprehensive and inclusive health benefits
Physical and mental wellness programs
Paid parental leave, including adoption
A variety of professional development and mentorship opportunities
Offices with stocked kitchens when you need to fuel innovation and collaboration
