Reliability Engineer

Job Description

The primary focus is to plan, execute, analyze, and report results of reliability qualifications and R&D for the Cree Power & RF Business Unit. The scope of the position includes technology R&D, new product introduction, and continual improvement for SiC power MOSFETs, SiC power Schottky diodes, SiC power modules, and GaN HEMT-MMIC RF devices.

What can you do for Wolfspeed?

  • Perform failure modes effect analysis (FMEA) in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders in order to devise reliability assessment plans that will characterize the potential relevant failure modes
  • Write reliability qualification plans and electrical test travelers/work instructions
  • Work with reliability test engineers to ensure that reliability tests are run, monitored, and completed successfully and accurately
  • Make sure that data from reliability tests is recorded, well documented, and organized. Compile data from various sources into spreadsheet and/or database format, with ability to query results of interest
  • Perform statistical analysis and modeling of reliability data including life distributions, accelerated life models, and intrinsic lifetime prediction
  • Perform and facilitate outsourcing of physical/failure analysis of devices from reliability and electrical test, R&D, and RMAs
  • Perform basic DC and RF electrical tests of SiC power Schottky diodes, SiC power MOSFETs, SiC power modules, and GaN HEMT-MMIC RF devices
  • Perform and/or coordinate failure analysis of reliability devices
  • Work with device and process engineers to help them to understand reliability results and drive any necessary improvements
  • Give presentations and/or write reports to communicate results internally and externally

 

What you need for success:

  • BS in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or other related technical discipline
  • 3 years experience in reliability engineering and/or the semiconductor industry
  • High aptitude and interest in data manipulation and analysis using spreadsheet, database and/or statistical software (Excel, Access, JMP)
  • Proficiency with basic electrical test equipment such as power supplies and current/voltage meters
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical properties of Schottky diodes and MOSFETs
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor process technology
  • Familiarity with working with high voltage electrical equipment, including basic safety procedures
  • High attention to detail and accuracy of results, including tracking, documentation and reporting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and professional relationship skills to enable working with a large number of diverse people across a variety of internal organizations including R&D, NTI, NPI, Sustaining Engineering, Production, Operations, Reliability, and Failure Analysis
  • High flexibility and ability to multi-task to respond quickly to urgent requests and quickly changing directions, as part of a dynamic, highly flexible, fast paced team
  • US citizen or green card holder

 

Highly preferred skills and certifications:

  • MS or higher in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or other related technical discipline
  • 5 years experience in reliability engineering and/or the semiconductor industry
  • Experience in reliability test techniques such as HTOL, ALT, HTRB, TC, HAST, AC, THB/H3TRB, IOL, and ESD-HBM/MM/CDM
  • Experience with RF and/or power devices (600V and above); SiC and GaN devices is highly preferred
  • Proficiency with more advanced electrical test equipment such as SMUs, RF sources and meters, curve tracers, high current/voltage power supplies; experience with RF reliability testing is highly preferred
  • Proficiency with computer control of automated test equipment (such as Labview or Visual Basic)
  • Experience with physical/failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, mechanical cross section and polishing, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam (FIB), energy dispersive x-ray (EDX), and thermal imaging
