Tax Editor (Charlotte)

Credit Karma is looking for a U.S. tax editor following the successful launch of a free tax service designed to radically simplify personal income taxes. In our first year, nearly one million people filed their taxes with Credit Karma.

Our ideal candidate is an experienced editor and noted tax expert who is eager to shape editorial strategy, deliver high-quality content and grow professionally alongside a highly collaborative team. Our writers and editors have worked at some of the top journalism and personal finance outlets in the U.S.

Our tax editor will also have the opportunity to interact with engineers, product managers, designers, researchers and marketers.

This role can be based in San Francisco, CA, or Charlotte, NC.

Your Profile:

  • Experience writing and editing across a range of topics relating to the U.S. tax code for a consumer audience
  • Intensely focused on delivering a great user experience without losing sight of the big picture
  • Experience sourcing, editing and publishing digital content that readers are eager to consume and share

What You'll Do:

  • Assign and edit a steady flow of content on tax topics for our 75 million Credit Karma members and all U.S. taxpayers
  • Pay strict attention to accuracy and ensure content meets all regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Serve as an in-house subject matter expert. Develop a robust editorial calendar
  • Support the content needs of our external syndication partners and our internal product, engineering and marketing teams
  • Add significant value to Credit Karma tax content through effective communication with writers
  • Elevate content quality
  • Collaborate with our in-house SEO team to ensure our tax content is discoverable by all the major search engines
  • Leverage data and analytics to assess content performance and apply learnings
  • Serve as a vital partner to our PR, social and community teams to maximize content reach

What We Expect:

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex tax topics for a consumer audience
  • Deep expertise in tax preparation and planning

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • At least 3 years of experience working as a tax professional with strong writing and editing samples or relevant tax experience within an editorial, trade or academic environment
  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in accounting, journalism, economics or a related discipline. A willingness to learn and grow as our team expands
  • Certified Public Accountant is a plus
  • Has experience assessing content performance and deriving actionable insights from readership data
