Assigning Editor

Credit Karma is looking for a nimble, detail-oriented assigning editor who is eager to join a mission-driven organization that is making financial progress possible for everyone.

You’ll join a team with exceptionally high editorial standards. Our team has worked at some of the top journalism and personal finance outlets in the U.S., and we are growing rapidly.

You will play a pivotal role in the future of our content roadmap and will be expected to quickly take ownership of content that matters to tens of millions of U.S. and Canadian consumers.

Your Profile:

  • Assign and edit a steady flow of content
  • Add significant value to Credit Karma content through effective communication with writers, strict attention to regulatory and compliance requirements and rock-solid ability to elevate content quality
  • Collaborate with our in-house SEO team to ensure our content is discoverable by the major search engines
  • Leverage data and analytics to assess content performance and work closely with the managing editor to apply these learnings
  • Serve as a vital partner to our social and community team to maximize content promotion. We believe publishing doesn’t end our conversation with readers — it’s just the beginning
  • Lend your well-researched content ideas to a robust editorial calendar

What We Expect:

  • Experience assigning content to staff writers and/or freelancers in a newsroom or digital-first content environment. Further, your focus in this role centered on acquiring readers through organic (non-paid) media channels, such as via search engines or direct traffic
  • An empathetic understanding of the needs of everyday Americans as it relates to their financial goals and economic security.
  • A willingness to learn and grow as our team expands
  • An excellent grasp of English grammar that’s balanced by an even stronger grasp of how people actually talk
  • Ability to write as well as you edit and a willingness to use this skill as needed

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • 3-5 years of writing and editing experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree that emphasizes a love of language and well-above-average proficiency in written English. That might be Journalism, English, Communications/Marketing, Public Relations or something similarly relevant
  • Prior experience in financial services journalism or content creation in a highly regulated environment
  • Basic SEO knowledge
  • Familiarity with an analytics platform such as Google Analytics
  • Experience with AP style
