The Marketing & Communications team is responsible for connecting the world to lifelong transformative learning. They also work to shape public conversations on the future of education and work. The team is segmented into four areas of focus: Consumer Marketing, Enterprise Marketing, Brand & Creative, and Communications. The team is currently focused on expanding the reach of Coursera’s brand, attracting  students to degree programs, bringing new customers to Coursera for Business, and creating a marketing system that nurtures learners throughout their professional lives.

We are looking for the Marketing Department’s design-forward Creative Director who will help shape the creative expression of our brand throughout all marketing communications, manage a small team of full-time and freelance designers, writers, and developer and who will partner with our product design team to find opportunities to delight learners and bring our brand to life throughout our product experience. As a brand steward, creative visionary, and creator, you will lead, develop, and launch compelling creative and campaigns expressed across marketing touchpoints including interactive, experiential, social, print, email, digital advertising, landing pages, and more. 

Your work will directly touch millions of learners around the globe and you will own the expression of Coursera’s visual brand through our marketing channels.

Your responsiblities:

  • Evolve and refine Coursera’s visual brand identity and deliver visual systems and impactful design solutions that strengthen Coursera’s brand across Consumer, Enterprise, Corporate, Internal, and Event marketing
  • Manage, mentor, and inspire a small team of designers and writers, including career development, project staffing, scoping, timeline estimates, and workback plans 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure superior quality, cohesion, and impact of creative solutions across all marketing touchpoints
  • From concept through final design, lead and execute big ideas across all channels and throughout all mediums
  • Collaborate with the product designers to ensure product touch-points are aligned with the brand’s visual design system 
  • Create and format all digital visual elements, including typography, layout, imagery, iconography, and banners for use on various online and mobile platforms
  • Help tell Coursera’s brand story internally (through environmental, conference, and culture work)
  • Serve as a brand steward and ambassador for both Coursera’s brand as well as our partner brands

Your skills:

  • 8+ years experience as a brand designer working on various media project types and styles - agency experience a plus, 3+ years of leadership experience
  • Strong ability to provide clear creative direction and lead both creatives and agencies through the strategic creation of impactful, integrated, participatory campaigns
  • Experience shaping and developing global brands through graphic design, communication design, and advertising
  • Exceptional graphic design expertise in typography, layout, color, and brand systems – no detail is too small for you to get just right
  • A strong working knowledge of the fundamentals—brand development, interaction design, user-centered experience design, digital marketing and the creative process—as well as new platforms and technologies for the digital channel and related media
  • Strong ability to prioritize work and resources (timelines, budgets, and availabilities) across short and long-term projects
  • Excellent presentation skills and communication abilities across levels and departments
  • Deep knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Sketch
  • REQUIRED: Portfolio featuring examples of best-in-class creative solutions and complex integrated campaigns that you’ve led and developed (please link a personal website or portfolio)
