Director/VP, Project Management Office - Healthcare

The Director, Project Management Office (PMO) will work closely with the Executive Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents (Account Leads) as appropriate to help drive the development of consulting and business development opportunities, management of engagements focusing on leading clients through the process of enhancing clinical integration, establishing population health, clinical care redesign and restructuring financial alignment toward the accomplishment of the triple aim. The Director/VP, Project Management Office (PMO) will be based full-time in Los Angeles, willing to travel up to 80%, and must be able to effectively manage major engagements, internal projects and team members. The Director/VP, Project Management Office (PMO) will specifically focus on and be responsible for the following areas:

  • Ensure the successful implementation of system strategic initiatives to scope, timeline and budget
  • Establish and manage the PMO(s) for new or established account as defined by the scope of the engagement and team leadership
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the PMO, including establishing appropriate tools, training, reporting and work stream management as appropriate
  • In coordination with account lead(s) and client(s), implement a common project management method and approach most effective for the engagement and client needs
  • Develop and maintain appropriate training and staff development for both client and account staff to adopt the project management methods, tools and principles
  • Maintain the integrity of the PMO and ensure the PMO appropriate services account and client leadership with respect to the engagement expectations, artifact requirements, work streams and communication needs
  • Support the firm internally in developing the processes, methodology, and tools to provide to enhance organization-wide PMO standards, tools and resources
  • Serve as a trusted partner and advisor for senior leaders, executive sponsors, and other key stakeholders
  • Lead initiatives, programs, or projects as assigned

 Position Description:

  • Understand and help drive the concepts of healthcare quality metrics, pay for performance, and value-based payments within a managed care system
  • Help develop value-add consulting PMO services and products for hospitals, health plans and mid to large-size physician organizations
  • Support the Vice Presidents in developing, implementing and maintaining consulting PMO engagement standards and training for the consulting division, including provision of technical quality assurance for engagement deliverables
  • Help cross-sell consulting PMO services in tandem with the Health Care Talent Innovations team for their client base
  • Give support to all assigned aspects of consulting engagements and other assigned contracts and projects from scope definition to delivery, assuming ultimate responsibility for contract deliverables, project resourcing and budget management
  • Support consulting business development including the development of targeted sales strategies and market research for penetration within California, the Southwestern and the Northeastern U.S.
  • Assist in the creation of proposals for business development in collaboration with organization leadership and team members
  • Build and manage relationships with key executives and staff at client sites to ensure the success of the engagement(s), including maintenance of engagement through communication and project management/coordination with assigned clients and stakeholders
  • Serve as a mentor to team members throughout the company
  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and ethical standards, as well as COPE Health Solutions employee expectations

Position Expectations:

  • Understand hospital operations, federal and state waiver programs, Medicare and Medicaid reform

  • Develop new ideas and take a leadership role, as well as support other team members, on innovations that lead to new business, enhanced productivity and/or increased profit
  • Lead and support the design and development of strategic initiatives and business development opportunities to cross sell current contracts, engage new business leads and strategic partners
  • Ensure that the organizational strategic plan is informed by current and projected health care delivery and overall market trends
  • Build relationships with strategic partners for business, funding, advocacy, and research and teaching opportunities
  • Identify, recruit, hire, and train staff, paid and unpaid interns and support as appropriate


  • Must have a Master’s degree (MBA, MPH, MHA or similar degree), and at least 5-8 years of work experience in a health care setting, preferably a consulting role and with focus on formal project management
  • At least 4-5 years of experience as project management team lead for mid to large-scale engagements
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively while handling multiple projects on various timelines in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Travel is an essential component of this position, up to 80%
  • A strong understanding of the health care industry, analytical thinking skills and a strong and dedicated work ethic are required

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in 2-3 areas such as health care financing, strategic planning, clinical integration, IT strategy, population health, policy reform, change management, performance excellence/process improvement
  • Experience in project management or training in project/program management methodology (PMBOK), PMP certification preferred
  • Experience in other methods of project management, e.g. Agile, Scrum
