Accounting Lead - Revenue

Compass is looking for an exceptional Revenue Accounting Lead to play a key role in developing a world-class Accounting department based in New York City. The primary focus of the position will be ensuring the proper accounting treatment of real estate transactions under US GAAP, along with complying with all legal and governmental requirements. Additional responsibilities include the development of accounting policies and procedures around current revenue transactions and potential future service offerings.

At Compass You Will:

  • Oversee the revenue recognition process, working with several analysts in the day-to-day function
  • Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, including month-end and annual closings
  • Oversee the maintenance of supporting schedules and reconciliations
  • Respond to inquiries from the field regarding the appropriate accounting treatment of real estate transactions
  • Monitor and report metrics of accuracy and report findings to management
  • Collaborate with operational finance and financial systems departments to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Support technical accounting research over revenue and publish internal memos on key accounting policies
  • Oversee balance sheet and income statement analytical reviews for revenue-related accounts
  • Assist in development and enforcement of internal control policies and procedures

What We Are Looking For:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience, real estate brokerage accounting experience preferred
  • CPA required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • MBA or Masters of Accounting a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes and procedures
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications; strong Excel proficiency
  • Self-starter, positive attitude, zero ego, and ability to problem-solve with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, and impeccable attention to detail
  • Proven experience building, mentoring, motivating and leading high performance teams and attracting and retaining top talent. Ability to effectively amplify the strengths and compensate for the areas of development of individuals across accounting roles
  • Ability to interact with senior management with confidence and credibility
  • Can maintain positive cross-functional relationships, and readily understand their business needs and requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks within an open and interactive environment
  • Proactive, always seeking additional responsibility
