OnsiteCollins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Test Engineer III to support testing of composite materials and parts using various physical, analytical, and mechanical test methods. You will collaborate with various engineering disciplines (Manufacturing, Materials and Process, Quality and MRB Engineering) to deliver state-of-the-art advanced structures used on commercial and military platforms, resolve complex engineering issues, and drive improvements and innovations to remain a world leader in the aerospace industry.

- Responsibilities will generally focus on testing but will have opportunities to take part in other projects which support plant initiatives in process improvements and/or research/development.
- Perform physical, analytical, and mechanical testing to recognized standards (ASTM & ISO), customer specifications, and novel project-based requirements
- Operate and maintain various test frames and other lab equipment such as DSC, DMA, FTIR, ovens, microscopes
- Analyze data, review results, perform root cause analysis for test failures
- Write technical reports summarizing results of testing activities
- Communicate with vendors (e.g., scheduling machine PMs, service requests, etc.)
- Review test plans for engineering tests and material/part/process qualifications
- Provide recommendations on test methods
- Provide oversight of testing activities in including managing work through the test lab and reviewing of test data
- Drive projects supporting improvement of lab operations and internal test procedures
- Perform other duties as required
- Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

- Experience working in a lab environment with standard lab tools
- Experience with test standards (e.g., ASTM, SAE, SACMA) related to materials testing, as well as design of test specimens and sampling plans to accomplish the intent of test standards
- Experience with materials characterization of polymers and/or polymer matrix composites (PMC)
- Experience with composites materials (thermosets and/or thermoplastics) and manufacturing methods (e.g. hand lay-up, fiber placement, resin transfer molding and/or compression molding).
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry or other related discipline. Degree with minimum 5 years of experience in testing.
- Project Management experience
- Knowledge with operating and troubleshooting universal test machines
- Knowledge with operating and troubleshooting thermal instruments such as DSC, TMA, DMA
- Experience with Chemical Hygiene Plans
- Familiar with CMH-17
- Statistical Process Control (SPC) and statistical data analysis
