Department Statement
Accountabilities
Primarily responsible for accurate and timely input of accounts payable. Accountable for providing timely, accurate and courteous information to vendor questions regarding payment status.

Responsible for brokering support and answers for a variety of financial questions fielded to the accounting office. Reconciles selected general ledger accounts.

Responsible for the review and audit of payroll and payroll benefit payments. Ensures accuracy and timely payment of same. Accountable for providing accurate and timely answers to employees regarding payroll processing and paycheck accuracy.



Responsible for the review, analysis, audit and execution of online transactional activity. Responsible for the return and explanation for transactions that do not meet appropriate requirements.

Technical Competencies

Financial Analysis

Demonstrated mastery of financial data sufficient to error check and validate key data sets and reports.

Financial Systems

Demonstrated knowledge of key financial systems and University-related business policies and procedures sufficient to audit, process, approve and/or reject transaction requests.

Demonstrated ability to write complex reports from all relevant systems.

Accounting

Demonstrated basic knowledge of general ledger transactions. Demonstrated ability to accurately enter and complete transactions in a timely manner.

Payroll

Demonstrated knowledge of payroll transactions. As required, demonstrated ability to make payroll entries, run payroll, reconcile payroll files, generate files for taxes and other fringe benefits.

Requirements

Professional Experience/ Qualifications
  • Excellent understanding and use of Microsoft applications, including Excel.
  • Requires strong verbal and written communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact in a collegial manner with a culturally diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Must be able to manage confidential and sensitive information, maintaining the strictest confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of hands-on accounting experience.
  • Previous experience in an academic setting desired.

Education
An Associate's degree in accounting, bookkeeping, finance or similar field, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are obtained is required.
