Data Platform & Ops Engineer

Tokyo, Japan

This role is to 1) create BI solutions that impart insights by telling visual stories to users, 2) govern critical master data, 3) operate BI solutions that is embedded with business process. This is a hands-on development position using PowerBI with data sources in Azure Cloud.

This role is serving our Japan & Korea Operating Unit, closely working with Regional Delivery Center (RDC). The role will work with Product Leads in the team, end users (as required) and the data team to define the requirements for the visualized dashboard with appropriate business acumen, do the actual development of the dashboard on the visualization tool, test and train end users on the tool. During periods of heavy development, this role will work with RDC and external consultants for development as needed.

This role will report to the Data & Analytics Leader in Digital Services. The mission of the team is to leverage the power of data & analytics to identify opportunities to drive growth of the company and enable timely and quality decision making.

What You'll Do for Us

Key Results
  • BI/Analytics solutions that are visually pleasing, easy-to-use and understand, and that drive actionable insights and business value.
  • Compliance with industry best practice software and company technical architecture standards
  • Deploy solutions using the System Data Lake platform.
Responsibilities:
  • Using Agile and Dev/Ops methods, build solutions utilizing technologies including PowerBI, with a variety of data sources (on-premise such as SAP, SQL Server, Oracle; and cloud IaaS/ SaaS such as Azure SQL, Redshift, Workday, Concur, SalesForce).
  • Apply and improve application development environment standards (including solution delivery methods/tools/technology) in order to enable consistent, reusable, and efficient full-lifecycle practices.
  • Manage or participate in cross-functional teams to promote technology strategies, analyze and test products, perform proofs-of-concept, and pilot new technologies and/or methods.
  • Establish and document standards, guidelines, and best practices for teams utilizing the solutions.
  • Review vendor solution designs to ensure informational and technical appropriateness, standards compliance, and platform alignment.
  • Keep current on industry best practices and products that can be leveraged to support the company's business objectives.
  • Help to communicate and evangelize concepts and methods including open source, cloud, agile, and dev/ops throughout the organization.
  • Represent the BI team in strategy reviews, leadership briefings, and cross-organization events.

Related Work Experience
  • 2-3 years of experience building BI/Analytics solutions.
  • 0.5+ years of experience with cloud-based architectures
  • Experience developing enterprise-class solutions
Qualifications
  • Fluency of Japanese language, business protocol, and culture
  • Good written and verbal communication skills of English
  • Ability to work with geographically diverse teams via collaborative technologies.
  • Expert level skill in SQL
  • Expert level skill in one, or more, of the following: PowerBI, Tableau, or Microstrategy.
  • Advanced level skill in developing mobile BI solutions on Power BI, Tableau or Microstrategy
  • Skill in Shell Scripting, and/or Python will be advantageous
  • Working knowledge or experience in one, or more, Big Data Technologies such as (Azure SQL DW, BigQuery, Cloudera, CosmosDB, Hortonworks, Hive, HBase, Kafka, Pivotal, Redshift, Spark, Storm, Vertica, Yarn). Strong preference for Azure experience.
  • Working knowledge or experience in Dev/Ops
Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, Data Science, or related field.
