Job Summary
The classified labourer is responsible for assembling different types of track components including panels, turnouts, and Continuous Welded Rail(CWR). The role ensures a safe working environment.

  • Move material around to build different track components
  • Assemble track with hand tools
  • Handle engineering operations including compliance with safe work procedures, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) guidelines, and CN standards, policies, and regulations
  • Address safety concerns associated with the working environment to create a safer place to work

Working Conditions

  • The role is primarily performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions
  • The role requires shift work, with occasional overtime including weekends and holidays
  • The role requires the ability to complete repetitive physical activity
  • The incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 70 pounds occasionally

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • Post-Secondary Diploma
  • Valid Driver's Licence
  • Meets all medical fitness for duty requirements
  • Ability to obtain Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) Qualification
  • Training or certification in Railroad Operating Signals

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset

Training

The incumbent is required to complete one month of basic track maintainer course at the CN Campus as well as obtain their CROR operating rules card.
This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement.
