Introduction
About the Position:
Scottsdale's Leisure Education Office administers and manages a diverse offering of recreation classes for all ages throughout the City. The selected applicant will coordinate a variety of classes; including instructor recruitment, contract administration, class scheduling, evaluation and customer interaction; as well as work closely and communicate effectively with center and park staff to ensure quality classes.

The City of Scottsdale offers a comprehensive benefits package including:

PLEASE NOTE: Years of experience are based on a work schedule of 2,080 hours per year for full-time positions and 1,040 hours per year for part-time positions, and while work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis, depending upon the job classification, education may not be substituted for work experience.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • One year as a Recreation Leader II or comparable level of experience in the recreation or a related field.
  • Must have at least six months of Lead or Supervisory experience.
  • Preferred: College-level courses.

Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.

Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Supervises employees and coordinates personnel-related activities to include, but not limited to: training, approving work schedules, recommending/approving personnel actions, coaching and counseling, establishing performance goals, and writing performance evaluations.
  • Personifies leadership and promotes shared responsibility, teamwork, and continuous improvement by planning, organizing, observing, and directing a variety of recreational activities in a recreation or related program area.
  • Plans, organizes, supervises, and implements activities within a specific Parks & Recreation or Human Services program area, coordinating a citywide program, planning, and promoting special events.
  • Prepares and monitors program budget, depending upon assignment.
  • Supervises the issuance, use, care, and maintenance of recreation supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains discipline, order, and crowd control at activity site.
  • Observes and evaluates existing services, projects, programs, and provides assistance to individuals and groups.

  • Lift and carry tables, sound and lighting equipment, and booth frames, weighing up to 50 pounds.
