Agency Description

The Philadelphia Water Department is a municipal department of approximately 2500 employees working in all facets to provide water/wastewater treatment services to the City of Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.

The Human Resources Division manages the recruitment, hiring, and labor relations for Philadelphia Water Department's over 2,000 employees. This internship will be focused on helping to establish the Department’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) unit’s goals and scope.

Job Description

This Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion intern will be working with closely with the current Graduate DEI Intern, Workforce Development Manager, and Asst. Deputy Commissioner of HR/Administration to help implement the department goals and initiatives for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include:

  • Establishing and supporting employee resource groups.
  • Structure a forum to obtain ongoing feedback from employees.
  • Analyzing workforce trends within the department using Excel Pivot and Microsoft Power.
  • Collaborating with Workforce Development on initiatives that promote equity.
  • Proposing trainings, structural changes, and structural support for ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion measure
  • Collaborating with the Racial Equity Team to support racial equity work within the department’s workforce, customer relations, and community outreach

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Sociology, Data Analytics, Political Science, Foreign Language Studies and/or related majors, or combination of education, experience, or training.
  • Coursework or Training within Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a plus.
  • Ability to work with a team

Work-Life

Working hours are generally 37.5 hours per week but can be flexible.  Our team is currently in-office three days a week and work remotely 2 days a week.

Qualifications

Preferred Majors – Human Resources, Sociology, Data Analytics, Political Science, Foreign Language studies, or a combination of experience and training in any of these areas.

Salary Range: $18 undergraduates, $20 Graduates
