OIT uses technology to help City employees do their work better and helps residents get what they need from municipal government. 

Job Description

The Network Architect will provide senior level network and security support related to design, configuration, installation, maintenance, and documentation of the City of Philadelphia’s network infrastructure. The position offers a range of responsibilities and the successful candidate will gain broad experience not only in network design, but also in unified communications, enterprise firewall administration, and technical leadership for an engineering team.

As a Network Architect, you will join a team responsible for managing the City's network infrastructure, ensuring its security, and advancing its modernization and sustainability. You will work closely with other team members and its Director to design, implement, and maintain a network that remains secure while also allowing City employees to work efficiently. Your work to ensure secure and fast network capabilities will be critical to supporting the City's emerging, innovative business solutions. Collaboration with both your own team and across other functional units of OIT is key to providing a municipal network capable of supporting the modernization of City business operations.

As a Network Architect, some of your opportunities will include:
    •    Configuring, deploying, and administering City wireless infrastructure
    •    Administering and supporting enterprise firewall solutions
    •    Designing, configuring, and deploying routing and switching solutions for Local Area and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN) in a large and complex city-wide campus
    •    Managing data circuits
    •    Administering site to site Virtual Private Networks (VPN), extranets, and direct connects
    •    Supporting Unified Communications team during VOIP deployments
    •    Developing comprehensive network design documentation
    •    Offering technical leadership to a team of network engineers
    •    Advising and assisting during network and security hardware purchasing, inventory management, and licensing

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Knowledge
    •    BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS, EVPN, MC-LAG, Multi-homed EVPN, VXLAN, 802.1X
    •    F5 LTM and iRules
    •    Pulse Secure (PPS, PCS)
    •    Cloud Networking (AWS, Azure)

Helpful Knowledge
    •    Juniper Policy Enforcer 
    •    Sky Advanced Threat Protection
    •    Aerohive HiveManager


Desired Education and Experience
    •    Bachelor’s Degree or 5-10 years equivalent experience
    •    JNCIP/JNCIE preferred.

Additional Information

Salary:  $105,000 - $120,000

Successful candidate must be a city of Philadelphia resident within six months of hire.
