Agency Description

The Philly Counts office was originally created to support the 2020 Census. By working closely with community members and partners, this program increased understanding about the importance of the census, educated the public on how to participate, ensured responses from the public for a fair and accurate count, and supported filling census jobs. 

The Philly Counts community engagement model has focused on leveraging community networks to further key administration priorities and to increase overall civic engagement in our communities to support a more equitable democracy in Philadelphia. This has included the trusted messenger model to assist the City’s COVID-19 response, mutual aid efforts, and the 2020 General Election.

Philly Counts is now helping direct community engagement efforts for the COVID-19 vaccine. In partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and other public and private partners, Philly Counts will leverage its existing network of staff and volunteers to provide COVID-19 outreach, education, organizing, and canvassing efforts to ensure that every neighborhood has 70% of their residents receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Job Description

The Philly Counts Data & Reports Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining data integrity in the Philly Counts volunteer database, creating weekly reports to track goals and compliance, and creating phone banks and walk packets for volunteers and partners. They will be responsible for assisting in projects related, but not limited, to: visualizing Philly Counts engagement data, creating predictive models for vaccination rates, and tracking and sharing progress with the ultimate goal of 70% vaccination in all Philadelphia neighborhoods. The ideal Philly Counts team member is idealistic yet practical, maintains a positive attitude, and is able to adapt to changes and setbacks. This position reports directly to the Philly Counts Data & GIS Manager.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position that ends at the completion of vaccination work or June 30, 2022, whichever comes first.

Essential Functions

  • Creating targets, phonebanks, and walk packets in NGP VAN
  • Performing data munging and cleaning to convert data into its desired form
  • Producing weekly reports with progress to goal for internal staff and external partners
  • Regular audits to ensure accurate data capture
  • Creating standardized tools for data capture and integrity
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Prior experience organizing and managing volunteers is strongly preferred
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google docs and social media engagement and VAN preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to engage diverse audience, from members of community and civic organizations, local elected officials’ staff, faith communities, to students, volunteers and the general public
  • Passion for advocacy and social change
  • Work collaboratively and meet deadlines
  • Bilingual
  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a car

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Project Manager: ability to create high-level strategy and outline the steps needed to meet all objectives, strong organization skills, detail-oriented, thorough in completing tasks, and persistent in pursuit of goals

Mission-oriented: passionate about and dedicated to ensuring a complete and accurate Census in 2020

Critical thinker: proven ability to work through complex problems/ tasks and the ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines

Adaptable: ability to understand and respond quickly to changes in the environment or direction; ability to toggle between big picture and details; able to be motivated about many different kinds of tasks and projects; self-starter with the flexibility to work independently and as part of a team

Effective communicator: strong oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, high level of emotional intelligence, and a track record of building effective relationships with diverse people

Familiarity with electronic tools: fluency in Microsoft Office Suite required; excellent skills in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with VAN a plus

Salary Range: $50,000
