IT ASSOCIATE – APPLICATIONS

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The IT Associate, within the Enterprise Application Services Division, is responsible for aiding with research and fact-finding to develop or modify information systems software. Assists in preparing specifications from which programs will be configured or written and ensuring the reliability of applications and customer support services for Houston Information Technology Services Department.

The individual assist in resolving problems that involve any of the application system, web servers, process schedulers, and third party software and application modules within the HITS application portfolio. Provides support to other senior team members in defining user requirements, coordinating updates and installing upgrades and patches. Monitors and produce performance reports for system features, and provide suggestions. Engage on multiple initiatives simultaneously, work closely with the development staff to articulate requirements, clearly define scope and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs. Develop, document, and track status against operational deliverables, tasks, and issues.

This position is essential to the application team and its ability to provide operational continuity to HITS customer environments. The position supports daily technical reporting, data analysis, application/interface administration and direct customer support.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment. Significant time spent using computer display, keyboard, and mouse.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires an Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field. This entry level position has sufficient educational knowledge to begin performing applications system analysis or coding, but requires significant instruction and guidance.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.

PREFERENCES
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

SALARY INFORMATION
$16.83 - $23.77 Hourly
