DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Produces maps, reports and analyses using GIS and various database software. Researches and evaluates source data using routine methods. Performs datum and coordinates system conversion, data spatial adjustment and image geo referencing, attribute editing, spatial analysis, and integration of GPS data. May develop applications and screen menus to support GIS users. Locates and compiles graphic data and attributes from plans, profiles and other sources. Converts data from one software platform to another. Interprets and transfers data from source documents; prepares data for entry. Performs quality control for database maintenance. Geocodes data files, corrects and modifies data.
The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Management position at the Tier II Level.
Requires an Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science, Geography, Computer Science, Management of Information Science or a closely related field.
No experience required.
Preference will be given to applicants who have write code and develop applications using Visual Basic, C++, and Arc Objects. Preference will also be given to applicants with technical proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
