DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manages capital project and assets for the department. Tracks the expenditures of capital projects and creates project documentation when projects have completed construction. Coordinates accounting and inventory of purchased assets for the department. Tracks the issue of inventory tags for controlled assets. Works with all levels of Houston Public Works management to coordinate annual physical inventory and facilities insurance schedule. Investigates and makes recommendations for issues of medium to high complexity and/or sensitivity. Coordinates, develops and reviews financial and management reports. Completes special projects as assigned that involve detailed research and analysis. Compiles and interprets statistical data related to departmental operations and special projects. Assists and trains department personnel in the research, review and analysis of asset location, accountability and inventory.
This position is physically comfortable with discretion of walking, standing, etc. Essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field.
Six (6) years of professional experience in finance, economics, budget analysis or a closely related field are required.
A Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a closely related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the above experience requirement.
Valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the following:
• Strong SAP experience
• Advanced MS Excel proficiency
• High level of organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
• Detail Oriented
• Innovative problem-solving skills
• Professional experience in finance, economics, and/or budget analysis
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
