DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for processing financial document requests such as expenditure corrections, budget transfers, interdepartmental chargebacks, and other journal entries; analyzing and preparing the monthly operating and financial reports and the annual budget for assigned funds; and preparing special analysis and departmental reports. Perform other duties as requested by Division and Department Head.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable with discretion of walking, standing, etc. Essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of professional experience in finance, economics, budget analysis or a closely related field are required.

A Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the above experience requirement.

PREFERENCES

Preferences will be given to applicants with experience in the following:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and deductive reasoning skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and SAP
  • Proficiency in revenue accounting and auditing
  • Analytical financial operations' research skill
  • Knowledge of budgeting, accounting, and reporting procedures

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
