The Deputy Assistant Director will lead and manage the employees and activities within the Management Support Section of Houston Water. More specifically, the Deputy Assistant Director will oversee the process control of the Wastewater Maintenance Operations Emergency Center; emergency response on sanitary sewer overflow and wet weather events; 311 Lagan Cases Citywide on sewer investigations; stoppage mitigation and sewer point repairs. Additionally, the Deputy Assistant Director will oversee staff and resources, develop and implement policies and procedures toward achievement of goals and objectives, and collaborating with other senior management to resolve issues and accomplish the service line and department overall missions.
Day to day task may include:
- Meet with staff and leadership to ensure shared objectives and teamwork.
- Develop strategic goals, define objectives, and measure performance of staff.
- Establish policies, procedures, and program management criteria.
- Research, review and analyze data.
- Coordinate complex activities and implement effective and timely solutions to issues.
- Develop, monitor, review and approve expenditures that are in line with the approved budgets.
- Respond to inquiries and requests from within and outside the organization.
The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field.
Seven years of progressively more complex/responsible administrative experience are required, with at least three of the years in a supervisory capacity.
A Master's degree in Business Administration,Public Administration or a field closely related to the work being performed may be substituted for two years of experience.
Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of seven (7) years' experience in the operations and major functions of municipal infrastructure. Preference will also be given to applicants who possess critical thinking, professional judgment, leadership, management and negotiation skills, customer service excellence, and knowledge of fiscal issues and technical competency.
** Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
