ADMINISTRATIVE ASSOCIATE

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Support executive level personnel. Perform varied professional administrative functions in the research, development, interpretation and implementation of the department's fiscal and operational policies and procedures. Responsible for reviewing and tracking incoming documentation, reports, and contracts. Respond to written and telephone inquiries, TPIA requests and complaints from the general public. Assist in coordinating and tracking communications going outside the division to other departments, city council and the mayor's office. Organize, schedule and prepare documentation for meetings and prepare travel arrangements. Provide back-up support to other administrative personnel in the division. Perform other duties and special projects, as requested.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

This is a Department of Public Works and Engineering Emergency Management Position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field. Professional administrative experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
None

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to those who are experts in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and possess experience working in a Call Center or with Work Management systems. Experience handling customer's responses. Spanish speaking is preferred. Excellent writing and communications skills. Can work independently and handle assignments with little direction.

Preference shall also be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

SALARY INFORMATION
$32,708.00 - $37,544.00 Annually
