ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs various professional administrative duties associated with record management, administrative support and data entry. Maintain and disseminate department rules, regulations, policies, procedures and other information. Assists in planning and implementing special projects as assigned by the section. Organize special events and mandatory training. Prepares periodic and special reports; complies information and maintains division reference information. Drafts correspondence, reports and other documents; proofs/edits documents for accuracy, content and format. Conducts administrative research and long-range planning studies on special management activities. Performs other duties as requested.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking standing, etc.

This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in, Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a closely related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year of administrative experience is required. Professional administrative experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to applicants who are proficient in Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook). Preference will also be given to applicants with strong oral and written communication skills and with experience compiling data for reports.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

SALARY INFORMATION- $36,738.00 - $43,732.00 Annually
