Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of clerical duties to support proper functioning of the nursing unit. Works with unit personnel as a team to meet unit objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Strong focus on customer service, providing accurate, reliable, courteous and timely assistance.
  • Supports the efforts of all care providers to deliver quality care.
  • Demonstrates competence appropriate to their role and function in the delivery of age specific care.
  • Ensures self-competence and promotes adherence to standards through education, training, coaching and monitoring.
  • Demonstrates understanding of all regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to provide sound decision-making.
  • Communicates effectively with all customers and colleagues to meet organizational goals.
  • Maintains current knowledge, skills and competencies through involvement in professional continuing education activities.
  • Uses resources efficiently.
  • Fosters involvement in performance improvement activities to promote continuous improvement in care delivery.
  • Stay current on all orders in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and call STATS immediately to the RN.
  • Demonstrates ability to gather data required and record or graph as assigned.
  • Ability to assign, document and maintain logs for communication devices on unit.
  • Maintain equipment logs, such as loaned items from unit and items that have been sent for repair.
  • Place work orders for nonfunctional communication equipment ie. Vocera, pager, locators computers at stations, WOWs and nurse call system.
  • Keep nursing station and public areas clean and tidy.
  • Ensue phones, computer equipment, counters and work stations are cleared of debris and wiped down with approved solution and trash cans are all emptied.
  • Sort all lab labels when they are printed out and flips them upside down so name is not showing to prevent HIPPA violations.
  • Ability to keep tele tracking information updated and current to facilitate transfers and discharges.
  • Schedules follow up appointment for patient's being discharged.
  • Demonstrates assimilation of core organizational values within own performance.

Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:

  • High School or equivalent
  • 0-2 years related experience
  • Medical Terminology Course
  • Current BCLS

Working / Environmental Conditions: Atmosphere and environment associated with an office setting. Atmosphere and environment associated with patient areas. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Likely exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Occasionally covers varied shifts. Subject to many interruptions

Physical Demands: Extensive telephone activity. Near Acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less. Far Acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more. Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 20lbs). Lifts supplies/equipment. Manual dexterity and mobility. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Occasional standing/walking. Occasionally works at PC involving focused concentration
