Staff Scientist - Light Microscopy Core

A Staff Scientist position is available in Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope in the Light Microscopy and Digital Imaging Core facility.

The Light Microscopy Core Facility is a state of the art facility that operates ~16 microscope systems that include fluorescence microscopes, Confocal, and 2-Photon microscopes. A wide range of imaging modalities from phase contrast, DIC, brightfield, fluorescence, and Confocal imaging experiments are acquired and analyzed using high end equipment and imaging software. The Light Microscopy Core currently serves approximately 83 Principal Investigators and approximately 217 separate users each year.

Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:

The successful candidate should have a PhD in a field of science related to biology or physics. A background in biology, neuroscience or optical physics is preferred. The candidate should also have extensive experience in Light Microscopy including widefield, Confocal and 2-photon microscopy. Should have experience with advanced techniques such as 2-photon intra-vital imaging, FRET, FLIP, FRAP, FLIM and FCS. They must be proficient in computer skills including the operation of imaging programs for the purposes of quantification. Operation of 3D programs for 3D reconstruction of data sets is also preferred. Knowledge of imaging programs such as ZEN Blue / Black, Image Pro Premier, Autoquant and Amira are desired. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to interact with people for the purpose of training and instruction and have a service oriented attitude. They must also be proficient in the presentation of scientific ideas and materials. .
