Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:
Under minimal supervision, working with specific Principal Investigators, develop, present, and bring to final submission large, multidisciplinary, and multi-collaborative grant proposals involving both federal, state, and private funding agencies and organizations. Coordinate proposal team formation including principal investigators (PIs) and collaborating investigators and staff with required organizational meetings and working groups necessary to meet timelines. This will require support of proposal and budget development and writing, editing of proposal narratives and budgetary justifications; synthesis and submission of proposal materials where relevant. This position will serve as liaison with the Office of Sponsored Research during pre- and post-award periods. Thus, it will be responsible for high quality written scientific documents for funding applications and publication, including writing, editing, and proofreading grant proposals, scientific manuscripts for peer review, white papers, protocols, and other scientific documents; searches for new funding opportunities; assists with updating reference materials.
Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:
- Master's degree. Preferred Education: Doctorate in Biology, biochemistry, or other life science. Previous work as a Principal Investigator
- One or more years of scientific writing experience, preferably in a healthcare/research/academic environment.
- Experience writing grants, including NIH R01 proposals, and/or experience with IND applications and clinical protocols preferred
Aptitude (Req./Pref.): Strong written and verbal English. Work collaboratively. Meet deadlines. Attention to details. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Prioritize. Requires judgment that could affect image of City of Hope
Software: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Adobe Acrobat, PhotoShop. Data analysis/graphing software (preferred). Adobe Illustrator (preferred). Da tabase software (preferred). Understanding of HTML an asset
Working / Environmental Conditions: Position is subject to irregular hours, changing priorities and unpredictable situations; candidate must be able to handle stressful conditions whilst maintaining a high quality of workmanship.

75% Develop and submit large, multidisciplinary, and multi-collaborative grant proposals to a wide range of funding agencies and organizations, including both public and private external entities. Assist with assembling scientific documents as necessary (e.g., large institutional grants, annual/occasional reports, progress reports for grants admin., IND applications, etc.).
15% Search the internet and other sources for foundation and government grant opportunities. Translate scientific abstracts into lay terms
10% Performs other related duties as assigned or requested such as presentation of draft ideas and plan to investigators, coordination of meetings required to create collaborative interactions both within and outside City of Hope, and reporting of progress to Principal Investigators.
