Position Summary
The pharmacist is a licensed professional individual with supervision experience, who is responsible for assisting the director and managers in the operational aspects of a department. This individual actively works to ensure optimal delivery of pharmaceutical care and service, as well as, assisting in performance improvement initiatives, either through direct involvement and membership or by occasionally leading PI team efforts. He or she participates in the supervision of human and material resources, as well as, program planning, and evaluation. He/she provides input into and is expected to meet budget, revenue and expense targets. This position supervises employees, assigns work, coaches, trains, and evaluates performance. It is expected that the individual who holds this position is able to actively participate with peers, subordinates, and supervisors in constructive problem solving, as well as, to facilitate frequent team building interactions with staff.
Key Responsibilities include:
Ensures that he or she provides services that are accurate, reliable, courteous and timely.
Supports and promotes the efforts of all care providers to deliver quality care.
Promotes the delivery of quality care consistent with the scope of practice of the discipline.
Ensures self-competence and promotes adherence to professional practice standards through education, training, coaching and monitoring.
Participates with the Director and managers in the implementation and evaluation of new services/programs.
Supervise personnel and personally delivers pharmaceutical care and service/ information/ medication/ products by serving as a role model and through effective use of change-agent strategies.
Adhere to all professional and regulatory standards.
Promotes collaboration and teamwork among all members of the healthcare team.
Supervision of Pharmacy Technician to ensure compliance with cleanroom standards, accuracy of medication inventory and accuracy of IV compounded products.
Keep up-to-date with USP 797 & 800 guidelines and work with interdisciplinary team to ensure compliance.
Maintain Pharmacy Technician IV compounding annual competencies.
Effectively communicates/educates all customers to meet organizational goals and customer service expectations.
Maintains current knowledge, skills and competencies through involvement in professional continuing education activities.
Manages/supervises the efficient and effective utilization of resources and staff (technicians, students, interns, etc.) and serves as a role model in training programs.
Fosters involvement in performance improvement activities to promote continuous improvement in care delivery.
Demonstrates assimilation of core organizational values within own performance.
Monitors drug therapy; recommends alternate more efficient drug therapy when appropriate.
Prepares and dispense medications in strict adherence to department policies and procedures.
Ensures secure storage of controlled substances and other drug products.
Acts as a liaison with nursing and medical staff concerning drug therapy, pharmaceutical information, drug reactions, medication adverse events, and positive patient outcomes.
Assumes the duties of the Pharmacy Technician/Intern as needed to maintain efficient quality operation and timely service.
Participate together with Regional Directors & VP in monitoring purchasing of pharmaceutical to obtain best pricing.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
Minimum Education:
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with ACPE accreditation pending with a BS Pharmacy degree
- Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
- Current CA Pharmacist License.
- Pharm D preferred.
- Two years of experience, preferred.
