Medical Coder - Outpatient: 3 Openings (Monrovia, CA)
Under the supervision of the Coding Manager, Coding Supervisor, and Lead Coder, the person in this role is responsible for following regulatory guidelines for the review, classification, and abstraction of clinical data from patients’ medical records regarding diseases, treatment given, and operative procedures. The person in this role will be focusing on surgical coding, mainly for outpatient. This role abstracts and codes relevant data elements for each professional fee service (ie, Evaluation & Management, surgical procedure, radiologic service, pathologic service, ancillary service, radiation oncology, and/or infusion charges).
We are in search of a multi-specialty surgery coder with minimum 2 years of paid professional coding experience. Pro Fee surgical coding experience is strongly desired for this role along with a working knowledge of ICD-10-CM. The Coder must also have knowledge of CPT coding guidelines, modifiers usage and NCCI bundling edits in order to assign the correct CPT and ICD codes for all services and procedures performed during the encounter and sequence them correctly.
Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:
- CPC, CCS-P, or CCS current coding certification is required.
- ICD-10 certificate from either AAPC or AHIMA is required.
- Two years of coding experience of professional fees (physician/medical office).
- Must have comprehensive understanding of professional fee coding principles, including knowledge and proper application of assigning ICD and CPT codes, bundling, and modifiers based on regulatory guidelines
- Must have current knowledge and training in ICD-10.
- Post High School education or equivalent
