Sr Maintenance Worker

The Park and Recreation Department is looking for three motivated and energetic Senior Maintenance Workers to join its Athletic Maintenance and one to join its Golf Maintenance operations team.

The Athletics section of the Park and Recreation Department provides a variety of recreational sport programs and facilities year-round for Fort Worth residents of all ages which help relieve stress, enhance physical conditioning and enhance quality of life. With over 60 high-level competition sports fields maintained serving over 20,000 participants yearly, the Athletics division has been perennially recognized as one of the best in the country for its programs and services.

The successful candidates for the Senior Maintenance Worker positions will be under the direct supervision of the Assistant Field Operations Supervisor in the Athletics Maintenance section; the successful candidate in the Golf Division will be under direct supervision of the Field Operations Supervisor at Meadowbrook Golf Course.

Job Description:

The ideal candidate for the Athletic Maintenance positions will perform a variety of construction and maintenance activities in the completion of assigned divisional operations, which include those related to the Parks and Recreation Department and other manual labor responsibilities, performs athletics maintenance and grounds keeping duties, which include mowing maintaining, measuring, lining and dragging turf fields: performing minor fence repair; applying pesticides and fertilizers. The position will operate a variety of hand and small power tools and equipment such as push mowers, weed eaters, stick edgers, backpack blowers, chain saws, pole saws, shovels, rake, pick axes, jack hammers and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations, and will operate medium and light equipment such as driving brush trucks, large turf mowers, reel mowers, tractors, frontend loaders and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations.

The ideal candidate for the Senior Maintenance position in Golf Operations will performs primarily golf course irrigation maintenance which include leak determination, use of shovels and hand tools, locating and repairing leaks, ability to perform irrigation audits, repair of work area and other irrigation related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will secondarily perform a variety of construction and maintenance activities in the completion of assigned Golf division operations, which include those related to Park and Recreation Department and other manual labor responsibilities as listed in the above paragraph.

All positions reports maintenance and repair needs to appropriate supervisory staff, performs preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned, inspects equipment before use and completes daily operations reports and time sheets as assigned. The Senior Maintenance Worker will be required to meet with the crew leader and other supervisory personnel to determine job methods, adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures, ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations and will perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

High School diploma/GED and three years of general maintenance and/or construction experience.

Other Requirements:

Valid Texas Driver's License.

Proper techniques and uses of a variety of hand and power tools and machinery are required.

Preferences:

Preference will be given to applicant who possesses past experience in sports field maintenance and in operating turf mowers and tractors.

Working Conditions:

Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to extremes in weather conditions; exposure to vibrations, and noise; work on slippery or uneven surfaces, work with electrical energy; work with and around heavy machinery, in or near vehicle traffic; exposure to dust and fumes from motorized equipment; possible exposure to toxic chemicals.

Physical Conditions:

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time; moderate and heavy lifting and carrying, pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling; use of fingers, both hands, and both legs required; must be able to distinguish colors; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
