Recreation Programmer

The City of Fort Worth Park and Recreation Department is recruiting for a detailed oriented professional Recreation Programmer to work at Handley Meadowbrook Community Center.

Duties will include creating, coordinate and marketing community center recreational, educational, leisure, athletic programs and operations; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public. The preferred candidate will have experience working with diverse populations, assist in special event development and implementation and review and evaluate programs the events and schedule field trips. The selected candidates will maintain inventory controls and conduct surveys to monitor the overall effectiveness of center programs and events. The positions will be involved with hiring staff, participate in the training and motivation of subordinate community center personnel.

Other duties include working with youth involved in the afterschool program, school break camps, and summer day camp. The ability to create marketing materials and experience in the use of social media in marketing would be beneficial.

The position has heavy public and phone contact.


Two years of responsible community center service or recreational programming experience and a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Sports Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point is required.

Other Requirements

Excellent customer service skills required.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Texas driver's license.

Possession of, or ability to obtain certifications in Adult and Child CPR/AED and First Aid.

These position requires working evening and weekends.

Computer proficiency test will be given during interview process.

Job Preferences

Spanish/English Skills will be given preference.

Experience with registration software is preferred.

CLASS software or related registration software will be given preference.
