Lifeguard

The City of Fort Worth Park and Recreation Department - Aquatics section is recruiting for lifeguards for the aquatics season to supervise guests in the facility and swimming pool. Under direct supervision of the Senior Recreation Programmer, Lifeguards will be responsible for enforcing the swimming pool rules and regulations; ensuring the safety of facility guests by preventing and responding to emergencies. Administer first aid when needed; assist in the cleaning and maintenance of the pool and attend mandatory in-service trainings throughout the entire aquatic season.

Work hours: Will work up to 40 hours. (Seasonal)

Essential Functions:

  1. Enforce rules and regulations.

  2. Prevent accidents and perform rescues.

  3. Perform appropriate first aid when necessary.

  4. Maintain a high level of physical and mental fitness.

  5. Assist in cleaning and maintaining the pool and related facilities.

  6. Answer questions pertaining to the use of the pool.

  7. Participate in in-service training program set by the Manager, Lifeguard Manager, or Head Lifeguard.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

No experience required.

Training:

Red Cross Lifeguard Training

License or Certificate:

Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard

CPR and American Red Cross Standard First Aid

Or the ability to obtain both prior to May 23, 2017.

All applicants must be at least 16 years of age or older and must first attend a preliminary in-pool testing to be held at Texas Wesleyan University Swimming Pool, (1198 S Collard Street; Fort Worth, 76105) to be considered for employment. Upon successful completion of the in-pool testing, applicants who do not possess an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification must enroll and pass a 40hrs American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class.

All training and certifications are provided at no cost to the applicant.
