Engineering Technician II
THE WATER DEPARTMENT'S ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT SECTION is seeking an Engineering Technician II (mid–level technician position) to provide technical assistance to the engineering staff of the Water Engineering Development Section. Must be able to read engineering plans, and profiles, water and sewer maps, water pressure planes and sewer drainage areas and perform various calculations in order to evaluate a proposed site for utility service. This position will also assist developers to become familiar with the current Water and Sewer Installation Policy, address plat comments and customer inquiries. Additionally, the position will analyze development-related problems in assigned areas; and gather data through research; recommend solutions; and monitor implementation. Furthermore, this position will perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Associate's Degree or higher in a related field such as engineering, planning or architecture PLUS two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience in the areas of design, review/analysis of projects for conformance of established standards, and technical research assistance. -OR- HS Diploma/GED PLUS four (4) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience in the areas of drafting, design, review/analysis of projects for conformance of established standards, and technical research assistance.
Preference will be given to candiates who have two (2) years out of the 4 year technical experience that is required to be providing customer service to development-related customers and also possess a thorough understanding of local government policy and Fort Worth development processes. Good communication and writing skills with high level of multi-tasking ability are essential to address high volume of telephone, email, walk-in public inquiries. Organizational and detail-focused skill sets are required. Ability to work independently under the direction of the Senior Engineering Tech and other engineering staff. Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Accela, CISCO, and GIS edit skills are required.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time and occasional field conditions. Lifting weights up to 50 pounds.
Must possess valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
