The Planning and Development Department seeks to make Fort Worth the most livable city in Texas by promoting orderly growth and development, safe construction and neighborhood vitality. The Customer Service section helps complete this mission by functioning as the front line for the department by informing customers of permitting requirements and processing construction related permit applications, including building permits, electrical permits, plumbing permits, mechanical permits, parkway permits, contractor registrations, and other municipal permits. The Customer Service Section consists of a call center staff by 9 permit technicians and a supervisor, a walk-in area for trade permits and other municipal permits staffed by 9 permit technicians and one supervisor, and a building permit walk-in area staffed by 9 senior permit technicians and one supervisor. Staff is encouraged to seek professional development in preparation for advancement and to explore innovative solutions to meet our business needs and serve our customers.

The ideal candidate will have strong skills in:

  • Experience providing high volume customer service for telephone and walk-in customers
  • Responding to requests for building related permits and registrations;
  • Promote departmental goals and ensure quality customer service; and,
  • Consistently perform daily tasks which require strict schedule adherence, while allowing schedule flexibility in order to meet business needs.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED.

Clerical Skills Test:

Must be able to take and pass the Office Skills Test prior to the closing date. Minimum typing is 30 wpm and filing is 70. The test is administered Monday-Friday; 9:00 am-3:00 pm. No appointment is necessary but photo ID is required. Please call 817-392-7750 for more information.

Conditions of Employment

Persons selected for employment into any position must pass a drug test. Some positions may require passing an alcohol test. Previous employment and any additional experience will be subject to verification prior to employment processing. A driver's license and driving record check will be conducted if driving is a job requirement. A post offer employment medical examination may be conducted prior to job placement.

You will be paid by direct deposit only.
