The Speech Pathologist assesses, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, cognitive-communication, swallowing, and social communication disorders. They develop and implement individualized care plans, collaborating with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. The role requires a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, relevant licensure, and experience working with neurologically impaired adults and dysphagia cases.

POSITION SUMMARY: Assesses, diagnoses and treats disorders of Speech; articulation, fluency, and voice, Language; including expressive communication in oral, written, graphic and manual modalities, Oral, pharyngeal cervical esophageal and related functions including; swallowing disorders, oral function for feeding and orofacial myofunctional disorders, cognitive aspects of communication; including communication disability and other functional disabilities associated with cognitive impairment, Social aspects of communication; including challenging behavior, ineffective social skills, lack of communication opportunities. Is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the plan of care for the person served. Performs and directs administration of all speech therapy modalities & collaborates throughout the process with the person served, his/her family and the interdisciplinary team.
RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: M.S.or M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology, Communicative Disorders or equivalent certified program.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current ASHA and New Mexico Speech & Language Pathology or current Clinical Fellowship Licensure required. BLS issued through American Heart Association certification required.
SKILLS: Demonstrates accountability and skills in assessment/evaluation, decision making and time management. Should have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years post CFY experience (preferred) or current Clinical Fellowship License. Atleast one year of previous clinical experience with neurologically impaired adults and dysphagia, including radiologic assessment. (preferred). .
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
Responsible to: Director/Manager, Rehabilitation Services
ENVIRONMENT: Works in a clean, well lighted, ventilated smoke-free environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, combative patients and hazardous chemicals. Minimal X-ray exposure. Subject to stressful professional relationships.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Good physical condition.Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking. Lifts, positions, and transfers patients and manipulates occupied equipment. Lifts supplies or equipment up to 50 lbs. Potential strains resulting from lifting heavy patients and equipment.
