Sr. Lead Engineer, R&D - Production Design

Overview

The Production Design Group within Chick-fil-A, Inc. focuses on engineering innovative restaurant system solutions to enable profitable growth for 2,200+ restaurants. The Senior Lead R&D Engineer role within Production Design is tasked with performing advanced research and development on relevant projects and programs centering on food-production equipment, systems, and processes as well as acting as a technology scout, identifying new technologies that could be important to Chick-fil-A in the future. This role is also expected to be an influencer within Chick-fil-A to help direct the organization through innovative concepts and communicate their applications in the context of menu and operational strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Resolves highly complex technical issues and may conduct advanced research on relevant projects and programs
  • Support project teams within Production Design with technological solutions to solve current challenges. These solutions may be in the form of advanced physical modeling using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or finite element analysis (FEA), identification of an applicable technology, or application of physical laws to innovatively address a challenge.
  • Provide informal technical mentorship to a team of engineers and test technicians
  • Candidate will be required to leverage their skills as an individual contributor and in a technical leadership capacity


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Science in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or Physics
  • 5 years of engineering work experience
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership to mentor peers
  • Ability to work with wide latitude for unreviewed action or decision on most outcomes
  • Ability to assess current state and business landscape to determine future technology strategy
  • Proficiency in MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability to consider second and third order effects of decisions
  • Experience with and an aptitude toward work involving applied research to explore and define technically vague concepts with the ability to apply them to executable projects
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling programs, SolidWorks or equivalent
  • Experience analyzing mechanical and/or thermal systems using Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Experience analyzing fluid flows using computational fluid dynamics (CFD)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Aerospace) or Physics
