Operating Engineer Trainee

ROLEThis is a full time trainee position in facilities department which assists operating engineers with all aspects of plant & asset operation, including preventative maintenance, repairs, project and rounds/inspections. Position will require the ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting. There will be a technology component, as the majority of systems have software oversight. Ideal applicant will be a strong critical thinker and have the ability to work both independently and within a team setting. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in operation and maintenance of all building mechanical equipment, including preventative maintenance, manipulation, trouble-shooting and repairs, including: HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems and fire/life-systems on campus
  • Receive training and conduct daily mechanical rounds, chemical testing, preventative maintenance, equipment repair and inspections
  • Trainee will assist with building systems while on-shift, including manipulation of BAS, addressing work requests through campus CMMS, lighting control software and localized controls throughout campus


  • Currently enrolled & taking classes approved by Local 399
  • Proficient with Microsoft operating systems and technology
  • Strong social skills and communication skills
