Assistant Director, Safety and Security Operations

ROLE

Serving as second in command under the supervision of the Director, Safety and Security Operations. The Assistant Director of Safety & Security Operations will plan, establish, implement and provide coordinated leadership and direction in all aspects of safety and security operations, procedures and policies to protect the staff, reputation, facility and other assets of the Chicago Cubs. The Assistant Director will ensure a coordinated security and safety program is successfully executed at all locations owned and leased by the Chicago Cubs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

STRATEGY and PROCESSES:

  • Collaborate to set the strategic direction and goal setting for the safety and security team
  • Create, review, implement, and update policies, procedures, standards, training, and methods for the protection of associates, intellectual property, products, operations and facilities from unauthorized disclosure, counterfeiting, piracy, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, espionage, terrorism, and/or financial loss
  • Collaborate with the Chicago Cubs Facilities Management team on the planning of facilities projects. Advise the Facilities Planning and Operations Department regarding safety and security implications for new construction in addition to building renovations
  • Oversee the management of all regulatory compliance with City, State, OSHA, Licensing, and NFPA standards impacting the organizational operations
  • Manage, review, and update all compliance mechanisms such as audits, inspections, and reports ensuring measurable and usable data is produced for continuous operational improvement
  • Develop, review, deploy, and constantly improve all security and emergency response plans/procedures for all facilities
  • Provide oversight and management of all security and safety operations related matters at all owned and leased Chicago Cubs facilities. Oversee the security operations and associates at each of these locations providing 24/7 security and asset protection operations, including developing and implementing a multi-year departmental roadmap.
  • Review and report on all threats, risks, intel, investigations, and any ongoing issues, providing recommendations for corrective action and/or mitigation strategies

PEOPLE:

  • Create and promote a positive and proactive work environment that mentors, guides, molds, and directs the team as a group towards the organizations operational goals
  • Work collaboratively with external groups such as Major League Baseball, federal, state, local law enforcement and emergency services as well as internally with the Chicago Cubs management, Event Operations, Facilities and Legal departments
  • Ensure all aspects of the company's security policies and practices are developed, implemented, maintained and updated annually

TECHNOLOGY:

  • Oversee, maintain, and monitor the life safety and security systems at all locations. These would include CCTV, access control, intrusion alarms, fire alarms, suppression systems, and radio communications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-year accredited college degree, preferably in Operations, Homeland Security, Business Administration/Management, or Criminal Justice or ten (10) years of security management work experience in a large institutional or governmental environment
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of managerial and policy making experience in the security field
  • Previous work experience in sports, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, hospitals, CPG or airlines
  • Previous experience in reviewing, approving, and managing security technology
  • Previous work experience preparing and managing capital and operational budgets
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advance Degree
  • Advanced education in Security / Law Enforcement / Criminal Justice or equivalent Strong safety background
  • Board Certified in Security Management; Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
  • Mass gathering event security management and planning experience
  • Vendor management experience
  • Union staff management experience
