Oracle Database Administrator

Your Opportunity As application DBA for Schwab's Pega platform, you will be responsible for availability, performance, and resiliency of a number of critical large/complex databases across a number of Pega based application spaces.
The ideal candidate will have 6+ years Oracle DBA experience, working in an AIX and/or LINUX environment. You will have proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, across different geographic locations, including onshore and offshore. You will have strong communication skills (verbal and written), and you will be self-motivated and able to take the initiative to resolve complex technical issues. In addition to understanding the complexities of managing data governance, lineage, and security, you will provide DBA oversight and guidance to multiple agile teams. An understanding of agile methodologies is a plus (Scrum & Kanban).

What you're good at
  • Ensure effective and efficient running of the database systems1
  • Assist in monitoring, alerting, performance tuning and diagnosing issues for key databases and environments
  • Diagnose database server reliability and performance issues
  • Tuning SQL queries to improve performance
  • Using tools to find the most frequently run queries and other performance issues (AWR, OEM, ITRS, AppDynamics, Zabbix)
  • Ensure that new database code meets Schwab standards for readability, reliability and performance
  • Design indexes for existing applications
  • Advise developers on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc)
  • Review, deploy and test scripts/code
  • Respond to database related alerts and escalations and work to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems
  • Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards, and products as required.
  • Work with Vendor to drive platform maturity/capability


What you have
  • 6+ years Oracle DBA experience, 8+ years IT
  • 6+ years of developer experience in Perl, Shell scripts, Unix and Oracle
  • Experience with Oracle 12c Grid/ASM, RAC, Compression, partitioning, Data Guard and high availability techniques.
  • Solid understanding of database High Availability. Emphasis on minimal or zero down time.
  • Proficient AIX and LINUX skills
  • Understanding of Oracle Patch management and upgrades
  • Proficient use of OEM (preferred 12C version)
  • Diagnostics, tuning and configuration management expertise
  • Familiarity with reading explain plans
  • Expert in SQL and at a minimum intermediate PLSQL
  • Familiar with histograms, indexes, and bind variables
  • Familiar with ASH - Active Session History
  • Data Governance tools knowledge: Collibra, EDQ, IGC
  • Excellent Written and Verbal communication skills
  • Team player, collaborative across organizations and geographic locations.
  • Self-motivated and able to take the initiative to resolve technical issues.
