Principal Visual Designer
Do you want to help eliminate barriers between ideas and business outcomes? We want you to bring your unique experiences and creative ideas to the table. CA Technologies provides software and solutions that help our customers to develop, manage, and secure complex IT environments to increase productivity and enhance competitiveness in their businesses. It's our aim to encourage global collaboration and results-oriented innovation, while supporting and developing our talented people and our communities. CA Technologies will empower you to drive authentic success, for both the business and yourself in the application economy.
Reinventing The Enterprise
At CA Design, our vision is to do for enterprise software what Charles Eames did for the chair,
or Dieter Rams did for clocks and radios. The enterprise space is ripe for reinvention, and we're
investing heavily to be at the forefront in showing the world what's possible.
We're looking for a Principal Visual Designer to help lead this transformation as part of CA
Technologies' new Design Center in Santa Clara, CA. The Design Center is both a strategic
practice as well as collaborative space, created to foster design excellence, leadership, and
innovation across the company.
About this Role
The ideal candidate is an experienced design maven who will lead and craft engaging, beautiful
visual experiences across products, strategic initiatives, and brand / visual storytelling.
They will play a critical, hands-on role in our mission by establishing visual design excellence
across a variety of key, important areas. From helping us define a new look and feel for our
products to expressing how CA Design might show up at SXSW, this is someone who knows
what good, beautiful design is – and how to deliver it – regardless of what form it takes.
This is a rare opportunity to inspire and influence everyone inside (and outside) a $4B global
software company. Our products are used by everyone from the world's top consumer brands to
industry leaders in technology, finance and government institutions.
What We're Looking For
Candidates will be considered on three core criteria:
Work. Given the ambitiousness of our goal, a solid, beautiful portfolio that showcases a keen
sense of problem solving and modern design taste is paramount. If your work looks + feels like it
could belong in the Most Viewed shots on Dribbble — let's talk.
Experience. This is a leadership role with great visibility and impact, so a minimum of 6-8 years
of hands-on experience spanning UX / UI and brand / storytelling is desired. In addition, the
ideal candidate will have collaborated across diverse functions, led creative / design sessions,
mentored others, and presented to senior leadership.
Cultural fit. A positive, team-oriented attitude with the desire to do great work, collaborate
across disciplines at all levels, and teach / share knowledge. This person will deeply influence
the success and trajectory of the org, so a desire to partner and help everyone succeed is
● Excellent communication and collaboration skills
● Relevant degree or equivalent experience in Graphic Design, HCI, or similar discipline
● Expert knowledge and use of Sketch and Adobe Creative Cloud
● Experience with tools like Axure, Balsamiq, Invision, etc.
● Plus: experience w/ tools such as Principle, Framer or After Effects
● A great sense of humor, initiative, and desire to make an impact
● A strong, mature perspective on design and ability to lead through ambiguity
● An insatiable sense of curiosity and desire to learn
● A fascination with and ability to geek out on technology (beyond what's trendy)
● A desire to make the world a more functional, beautiful place (crooked type bugs you)
● Design + creativity permeates life — you draw, paint, take pictures, shoot movies, etc
