Senior Marketing Automation Developer

Position Description

The Marketing Automation Software Engineer will be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and support of our Marketing Automation platform. The primary responsibilities of this position revolve around being a key service provider for our Digital Marketing teams, as well as consistently meeting business requirements, direction, and standards while ensuring the health of ongoing campaigns. Associates in this position must be experienced in the Marketing Automation platforms used by CarMax®:, being a key hands-on contributor to the implementation of highly personalized communications to our current and prospective customers.
Associate will be technical leader in our Digital CRM practice, serving as an expert in Marketing Automation capabilities as well as a hands-on contributor in executing marketing journeys, ad hoc campaigns, and tests in an agile environment. This role will work with a cross-functional team consisting of a Program Manager, UX Designer, Analyst, Copy, and supporting Marketing functions. Associate is a proven team player and highly qualified to identify data development tasks within CarMax's Marketing Automation platform.
The character of this position is one of hands-on development, technical guidance, platform health, and monitoring and maintenance of Marketing Automation.

Position Requirements

? Leading the technical design and implementation of practical, maintainable Marketing Automation project solutions
? Driving value through development in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including creation of new campaigns from data integration to AMPScripting (but not directly responsible for HTML creation)
? Serving as the Marketing product expert for CRM systems to ensure that the team is fully leveraging the platform capabilities
? Driving customization of the Marketing Automation platform and influencing the development of the Marketing Technology infrastructure
? Functions as the primary support for their platform of mastery
? Ensuring all automated communications run continuously as intended:
o Troubleshoot/debug issues as they arise
o Partner with other teams where necessary
o Perform regular quality checks
o Identifying stability opportunities and partnering with teams to resolve
? Passionate about support & ownership of all areas under their responsibility
? Can effectively categorize support problems and respond with the appropriate level of urgency
? Functions as the second level support in after-hours calls as the support expert for their platform of mastery
? Ability to mentor others in the business processes implemented in order to provide resolution to support problems
? Able to effectively estimate the time it will take for themselves and others to perform tasks and are able to influence the team's work to be completed within those timeframes
? Consistently delivers on established individual velocity and team goals
? Consistently shown the ability to mentor others in platform best practices
? Stay abreast of new technical trends in related technologies
? Effectively estimate time required for related technical efforts for projects of all sizes and delivers multiple complete solutions as well as estimated and actual costs

Technical Expertise:
? Proven experience in thoughtful construction and creation of efficient data integrations into the Marketing Automation platform
? Proven experience leveraging existing software, development of reusable components, and elimination of redundancy in designs throughout their application environment
? Experience in identifying multiple solutions to data integration and guiding the team to a thoughtful design
? Experience in debugging and resolving complex issues in the platform
? Proven experience in the design and deployment of complex SQL objects and database design
? Experience in multiple large projects in leading the definition, selection, and implementation of enterprise tools, technologies and processes
? Able to design and execute successful system and performance tests

Customer Interaction/Business Knowledge:
? Complete understanding of all the marketing processes implemented in Digital CRM and consistent ability to keep business objectives in focus
? Ability to understand and document business requirements as well as provide a proposal of the appropriate solution
? Ability to lead customer/project meeting(s) for highly complex project definitions, needs assessment and design review

Leadership:
• Able to influence the direction of other technical and business partners in order to successfully meet the key business objectives for the team
• Ability to develop and deliver technical training for users of the Marketing Automation platform
• Ability to drive through obstacles and time constraints to successfully deliver a project to completion
• Demonstrated ability to deliver solutions through building consensus in both business and technical perspectives

• 5+ years of relevant IT project experience (Agile/Waterfall SDLC)
• Expert understanding of SalesForce Marketing Cloud
• Expert experience in the creation and implementation of efficient data extensions
• Proven experience in the implementation of complex AMPScripting techniques
• Expert understanding of Journey Builder, Automation Studio, and campaign creation/management
• Proven experience in seamlessly integrating with external data systems
• Experience in SOAP APIs, REST APIs, and other integration patterns preferred
• Experience in integrating SalesForce Marketing Cloud with SalesForce Sales/Development cloud preferred
• Excellent understanding of data dependencies and design for Marketing Cloud journeys and campaigns
• Working knowledge of HTML/CSS

? Experience in creating and developing new Marketing Automation campaigns and effectively communicating the rationale behind the designs
? Proven experience with working effectively with multiple areas of the business community in order to gather requirements and translate those requirements into software designs
? Ability to interact with and direct the tasks of outside consultants in a professional manner while helping them drive to successful project completion
? Demonstrated ability to compare and contrast alternative approaches to meet objectives while assessing risk both quantitatively and qualitatively
? Possess strong organizational and time management skills
? Demonstrated flexibility

Education and/or Experience:

Years of experience Typically 3+ years of SalesForce Marketing Cloud experience required, 5+ years of IT development experience
Education preference 4 year degree in an IT or related course of study
Certifications, etc. SalesForce Certified Marketing Cloud Consultant or Email Specialist certification preferred
RDBMS experience Relational database experience required; Hands-on SQL experience required
