Analyst II - Financial Planning & Analysis

Position Description

The Analyst II on CarMax’s FP&A team will be a driven future leader with a strong ability to effectively partner across the organization. This position will be responsible for providing financial analytics and insights related to CarMax’s strategic initiatives and corporate financials to drive sound forecasts, budgets and investment decisions. They will be part of a team accountable for managing the company’s strategic portfolio and corporate financials.

This position will report to the Manager of Corporate & Strategic Finance and partner with groups including Corporate Strategy, Business Operations and Marketing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage organizational partnerships to model impact of strategic initiatives

o Identify and validate potential costs and benefits of proposed efforts

o Create and manage financial models to analyze financial expectations and validate results of strategic initiative

o Align reported initiative performance with enterprise performance

o Integrate initiative benefit and cost expectations with forecasts and budget

o Review performance and resource requests regularly within Finance

o Leverage learnings to propose and implement continuous improvements to testing, tracking, analyzing and forecasting methodologies and approaches

o Be the key resource on selected strategic initiatives with the goal of communicating insights, analysis and recommended next steps

  • Support analysis of overall financial performance and corporate financial items

o Assist with consolidation and analysis of enterprise financial performance

o Assist with analysis of select corporate accounts (e.g., interest expense)

  • Produce and deliver key management reports and presentations, including:

o Periodic strategic initiative review presentations

o Regular corporate financial performance reports and presentations

o Sr. Team, Executive Committee and Board of Directors presentations

  • Demonstrated top caliber analysis, strategic thinking and financial modeling skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • BA / BS in Finance or related degree
  • Two to four years of relevant finance experience, preferably with a retail company
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and financial modeling skills
  • Excellent communication, partnering, presentation and influencing skills
  • Excellent computer skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Enterprise Financial Planning Tools (Hyperion, ABS, etc)
